Why are there little holes that look like a mic in some car dashes?

In the dashes of some cars (Buick LeSabre Custom and Kia Spectra) there are little holes or slits in the dash down and to the right a little from the steering wheel. Both of these cars don't have on-star or any other electronic in them that would need a microphone.
