Plastic bag caused car to overheat?

Today i was driving my 1997 buick regal when i noticed that the tempature gauge raised into the red. I immediately pulled over, pooped the hood and discovered a plastic garbage bag had some how managed to be stuck to the front of my radiator. I removed the bag and my car continued to overheat. My air conditioner also started blowing hot air, any ideas on the problem?.....
